Anna Ludlow - Jigs (Canadian, Nova Scotia)

Man I thought my fiddle was a bit dusty, beautiful sound but that fiddle needs some TLC.

Anna Ludlow, very talented young lady. Had the pleasure of jamming with her several times.

The Joe Fresh, toddler & kids line of children’s clothing, made in Bangladesh and found at Atlantic Superstores in Nova Scotia.

Several items of clothing carrying the Joe Fresh brand were found earlier this week in the rubble of a collapsed garment manufacturing facility in the city of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Over 300 people have died and hundreds of others are missing. The average worker here makes about $38 a month.

Join me in saying ‘no’ to Joe Fresh by adding this tag to your posts: #nomorejoefreshforme

Let’s call a spade, a spade! A tourism boost, yes, but this is nothing more than pre-election maneuvering by a government that is in trouble; down in the polls, has an unpopular leader and has little credibility with most Nova Scotians. This just won’t fly! Call an election, Mr. Dexter! We all want a change! High-res

Posting #2 - Taking Shape

Liverpool Sculptor, Ivan Higgins is hard at work molding and shaping his annual concrete art creation. His studio ‘greenhouse’ at Cosby’s Garden Centre, Liverpool is a maze of twine, holding wire and iron rod forms that will soon be covered with a special concrete mix.

Higgins occasionally glances at the detailed line drawings on his studio wall. These drawings of human forms, often depicting the garden centre staff, will provide the visual stimulation for this year’s project.

Follow us over the next few weeks as we watch Ivan’s art come to life.

Cooke Aquaculture, one of the largest fish farming operations in Canada, recently processed some 240,000 fish with infectious salmon anemia (ISA) from its Liverpool Bay facility. The fish farm is just around the corner and down the road from where I live in Brooklyn, Queens County and the government wharf, where the company loads and unlaods its fish and harvesting equipment is just a few hundred feet away.

The diseased salmon from the farm were processed in New Brunswick and sold at Sobey’s and other super markets at discounted prices. At the end of January, 2013 Sobeys were offering a BOGO event on salmon portions at many stores and the company continues to discount salmon regularly - perhaps a move to reclaim market share resulting from the negative impact of fish farm oppostion groups across the province. Of course no one really knows where and when the ISA salmon were sold as there was never any need to tell us that information, because, after all, these fish are not harmful for HUMAN consumption!

Want to know more about infected salmon in Canada? This video documentary tells it all. Should we be conerned about what’s happening on the East Coast? Well..watch the video, read the news reports and scientific literature and make up your own mind. As for me..I WON’T be buying fresh, farmed salmon anytime soon!
